Andrew McCarthy joins Gossip Girl spinoff

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

The 2008 Entertainment Weekly-Vavoom Party Be still my heart! One of my favorite ‘80s movie star icons, Andrew McCarthy, has joined the cast of the Gossip Girl spinoff, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Even better, McCarthy will play Lily’s father Rick Rodes, a music company executive.

McCarthy joins Brittany Snow, who has been cast as young Lily, and Krysten Ritter, who plays Carol Rodes, Lily’s wild sister

Is it fitting that an ‘80s star like McCarthy known for flicks St. Elmo’s Fire and Pretty in Pink will now be on a show set in the ‘80s?

McCarthy recently starred on NBC’s Lipstick Jungle as Joe Bennett.

Baby girl for Gossip Girl’s Matthew Settle, wife

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

SGY-004724-matthew-settle-wife-baby-gossip-girl-pr-picnik Gossip Girl dad Matthew Settle and wife Naama celebrated the birth of their first child, Aven Angelica, on Thursday, according to ET Online.

Settle plays Rufus Humphrey, father to Dan (Penn Badgley) and Jenny (Taylor Momsen) on Gossip Girl.

Back in November, Settle said he was "thrilled" to be a first-time father in real life.

We wish the best for the Settles as they celebrate a lot of new “firsts” as parents.

According to various sources, Dan and Serena are toast on Gossip Girl!

We no longer will have to worry if Dan (Penn Badgley) and Serena (Blake Lively) will have to live as half-siblings as they are heading in other directions.

According to Watch with Kristin, a source says they are “done” completely for the rest of the season.

And over at Entertainment Weekly, Ausiello Files’ column is saying the same thing — Derena is over, according to executive producer Stephanie Savage.

For the rest of the season Serena will be messing with her new boy toy played by Armie Hammer, according to Watch with Kristin.

A source tells Watch with Kristin:

“The last few episodes of the season are chock-full of some of the biggest OMFG moments of the series.”

OMFG moments? I can’t wait!

From the previews, it looks like there will at least be some Chuck-Blair drama, though it doesn’t appear they will be a couple for at least the present time.

Doesn’t it seem like forever since our last new episode? New episodes return on Monday, March 16 on The CW.

Here are a few more photos of the couple together on set:

Brittany Snow in final talks for Gossip Girl spinoff

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

According to the Hollywood Reporter, teen star Brittany Snow is in final negotiations to take the lead role in the Gossip Girl spinoff for The CW.

In the spinoff, Snow would star as a young Lily van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford) in a prequel chronicling the wild teen years of Lily in Los Angeles during the 1980s.

According to the premise, after a fallout with her parents, Lily is forced to move in with her sister Carol (Krysten Ritter), the black sheep of the family. Lily will have to transition from a life of luxury in a boarding school to going to public school (OMG!).

Also cast is Shilo Fernandez (Jericho) as Owen, a hot Valley punk guy with unusual wit, according to THR.

The backdoor pilot for the spinoff is schedule to air May 11 as a special Gossip Girl episode.

Though Snow got her break as the star of NBC’s series American Dreams, she is more well known for her recent movies including John Tucker Must Die, Hairspray and Prom Night.

Enjoying teen flicks like John Tucker Must Die, I really liked Snow in the movie and believe she has a quiet comedic nature that comes across the screen. She seems to fit the “nice girl” image. I’m not sure she’s what I imagine for a young Lily, but she is one of my favorite young actresses and think she could pull off the role. Plus, I think she would draw in a good target audience who has followed her in her career.

Taylor Momsen’s rockin’ looks on Gossip Girl set

Thursday, February 26th, 2009
90223M3_MOMSEN_T_B_GR_04-taylor-momsen-gossip-girl.jpg

Taylor Momsen (Jenny Humphrey) really has shed her school-girl look these days. In almost every picture she is more rocker girl than private school girl she plays on The CW’s recently renewed Gossip Girl.

In these pictures taken Feb. 23, Taylor walks to the set on the Lower East Side.

Lately her character on Gossip Girl has been kinda blah. She hasn’t had many storylines except for being a third wheel to Eric (Connor Paolo) and his boyfriend.

It’s time for Jenny to get in the middle of the action. How about a new guy for Jenny? What do you want to happen to Jenny?

Gossip Girl renewed for third season!

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009
90223P4_CRAWFORD_B_GR_04-chace-crawford-leighton-meester-gossip-girl.jpg

OMG! CW executives have decided we will DEFINITELY get a season three of Gossip Girl!

The execs announced the return of Gossip Girl along with Supernatural, Smallville, 90210, One Tree Hill and America’s Next Top Model.

The way this season is going — with Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) in opposite directions, Blair and Nate (Chace Crawford) headed back together, Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) coming back, Serena (Blake Lively) headed down the wrong path for love, and Dan (Penn Badgley) doing no telling what with his former teacher — we will need more Gossip Girl by the time this season is over.

Then we will all be on pins and needles waiting for the new season to start. But that’s why we love Gossip Girl.

Plus, we will soon find out what paths the characters will be taking after high school. Where will they go to college? Who will go to college?

Photo question: This photo of Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald) and Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf) was taken Feb. 23 on the Gossip Girl set. What do you think they are talking about?

Carter Baizen headed back to Gossip Girl

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Sebastian Stan, who played Carter Baizen in the first season of Gossip Girl, will reprise his role on on two upcoming episodes, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Stan is Leighton Meester’s (Blair Waldorf) boyfriend in real life. Talk of the two getting engaged came up in December in the rumor mills, but there was never anything official.

According to EW, Carter will not make Blair-Chuck (Ed Westwick) fans very happy as he will be pushing our favorite couple even further apart. (As if Nate wasn’t doing a good enough job hooking back up with Blair). I wonder who Blair will start with first — Nate or Carter?

Carter will “mess with Chuck and hook up with Blair,” according to EW.

Stan is currently cast as the king’s son Jack Benjamin on NBC’s new drama Kings about a modern-day monarchy, which is scheduled to premiere on March 19.

Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick play basketball on Gossip Girl set

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Nate (Chace Crawford) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) play basketball on the set of Gossip Girl in New York City on Monday, February 23.

From looking at the photos (several are posted after the jump), it appears that Ed Westwick may have some true basketball skills.

I wonder how the dynammics of Chuck and Nate’s friendship is going to work once Nate becomes involved with Blair (Leighton Meester). Or maybe Chuck could care less at the moment.
